How it works

1

Drop your files

One file up to 1GB, or up to 50 files (2GB) as one folder link. Nothing is compressed.

2

Choose when it disappears

1 hour, 12 hours, 24 hours, or after a single download. Add a password to a folder if you like.

3

Share the link your way

Paste it in any chat or email, or show the QR code. No transfer email is sent on your behalf.

✉️

No email, ever

WeTransfer's free plan asks for your email address before sending. Here there is no field for it — not for you, not for the recipient.

🧹

Deleted, not archived

Links expire within 24 hours or after one download, and the files are then permanently deleted. Nothing lingers in an account.

📥

Receive files too

Create a file request link and let clients or friends upload to your private inbox — they don't need an account either.

🔒

Encrypted, never scanned for ads

Files are encrypted at rest and never used for advertising, profiling or AI training. No ads on the download page.

Transient Files vs WeTransfer at a glance

When WeTransfer is still the better pick

If you routinely move multi-gigabyte projects, need a transfer to stay up for a week or more, or want branded download pages, a paid transfer service does that better. Transient Files is built for the other case: the quick, private handoff that should disappear once it's done — large files up to 1GB, whole folders, or collecting files from someone.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free WeTransfer alternative?

It depends on the job. For quick, private handoffs that should not stick around, Transient Files needs no email and no account and deletes files automatically. For very large projects that must stay available for weeks, a paid cloud or transfer plan is a better fit.

Can I send files without giving an email address?

Yes. Transient Files has no email field at all. You upload, copy the link and send it however you like; the recipient opens it in any browser.

How big can my files be?

Up to 1GB per file. To send several files together, create a folder of up to 50 files and 2GB in total behind one link.

How long do files stay available?

You choose 1 hour, 12 hours, 24 hours or a single download. That short lifetime is the point: nothing sits on a server for weeks. If your recipient needs a file for longer, WeTransfer or a cloud drive is the better choice.

Didn't WeTransfer change its terms about AI?

In July 2025 a WeTransfer terms update mentioning machine learning caused a backlash among creatives. The company revised the wording and said it does not use customer files to train AI. Whatever service you use, read its current terms; ours are short and at /terms.

Can people send files to me, like a WeTransfer request?

Yes. Create a file request at /request/, share the upload link, and files land in a private inbox only you can open. Senders don't see each other's files.

Is Transient Files affiliated with WeTransfer?

No. WeTransfer is a trademark of its owner; Transient Files is an independent service. This page compares the two so you can pick the right tool.
